Album Review: Evacuate The Dancefloor - Cascada

Cascada is a group of three people who refuse to leave the music world for 2 years or something like that to record a new album. And also for this album that's so.. The last thing that has been uploaded on my iTunes Music Store was "What Do You Want From Me - Single" (26/10) and now the new album has been out for almost a month and it's time to give you my point of vue..

Ok so let's give this so called biggest album to come from this artist our best shot

1. Evacuate The Dancefloor

Well, it's a catchy melody to start with but the bassline made me think a bit about Lady Gaga's Just Dance (why did I ever stop listening to that song?). Anyway, I've been listening to this album on my iPod, on my laptop, on my iMac and on a stereo-thing and I have to say that everything comes out best on the last thing when you have a subwoofer.. Anyway, at this moment there's this guy saying "Now guess who's back with a brand new track", which made me think about Eminem (why did I ever stop listening to him?) when he says "Guess who's back with a brand new rap".. Ah well..

2. Hold On

This song starts awesome.. The acoustic guitar really finishes this song and it's good it doesn't go away.. I think Cascada is pretty good when they express feelings (Miracle, Everytime We Touch,..) and that's not different for this song.. It makes you wanna dance, and I believe that's what they want, right? :D

3. Everythime I Hear Your Name

I love the bassline in this song and Natalie sings really really good in this one.. But something tells me I've heard the bassline somewhere else but just because I don't know where I don't really care.. I mean.. Once again a guitar who finishes the song and I have to say it sounds just great..

4. Ready Or Not

With "Ready Or Not" they seem to aim for something like Miracle.. Bells, vocals and a catchy melody but it's not that good actually.. I think they tried too hard on this one.. Maybe they should've made an acoustic song of this one!? Guitar - Piano - Strings.. I think that would sound awesome.. 'cause the only reason why I'm tappin' my feet is because the bassdrum is so loud.. You've got no choice

5. Fever

Ok I'm 100% sure that had a look left and right on this one 'cause I'm sure I've heard this bassline before somewhere and once again they succeed in making me think of Lady Gaga (why did I stop listening to her?).. Anyway, when you throw all that away you enjoy this song like pretty much (at least the refrain 'cause you keep thinking about Lady Gaga).. Natalie sings really powerfull and the (stolen?) electro bassline sounds so awesome together.. It's a good song, nothing more, nothing less..

6. Hold Your Hands Up

Once again, I know the beginning from somewhere.. But once again I really don't remember where.. Hmm.. Anyway, I don't think this song is good.. It's so.. Well, let's just say I don't think it should be on this album.. I mean it's a nice piece of music, don't get me wrong.. But yeah, it's too much.. Maybe if Cascada would also start an R&B-project so that you could be in this groove when this song starts, it would help.. 'Cause, once again, it's an awesome song.. But it doesn't belong here..

7. Breathless

Oh My God, come on.. "Hey Avril, we got a ripoff here!"..
Oh My God, come on!! "Hey Boys Like Girls, we got a ripoff here!"..
Don't believe me? Yeah.. Right..

Why did I ever stop listening to Avril Lavigne and Boys Like Girls, actually?

This song just sucks.. This isn't from Cascada..

8. Dangerous

actually I'm pretty pissed after listening to the last song and this just isn't a good song either.. So nah, screw this song.. "You're so dangerous, My biggest mistake".. Dyou mean the song?

9. Why You Had To Leave

After two songs who tortured me we get something nice again.. The refrain is really great, I've got no other words for it.. It just makes you want to dance and the lyrics show an emotional side, which is awesome! I love different genres and Dance and Emo are top rated to me (no, that
doesn't mean I cut myself.. Djeez..). This song is great [Period]

10. What About Me

This song, on the other side is once again a piece of crap to me.. Nice try, but no..

11. Draw The Line

Well, this is a nice song to end the album, not going to lie.. I would've liked it better if it was a bonus track and that there would've been another 11th song.. But hey, it's nice..

Anyway, the fact that I've thought about so many artists when I was listening to this album was pretty annoying..

Album Review: Evacuate The Dancefloor - Cascada: 3/5
Album Review: Boys Like Girls - Boys Like Girls: 5/5
Album Review: The Fame - Lady Gaga: 5/5 (I trust my ex on this one)
And I fucking bet Avril Lavigne's Let Go will also be worth at least (!) 4/5

Enjoy Cascada's (German) site as well

Review: Bart Got A Room

I had never heard of this film untill this morning and I'll tell you in a few small points what I thought about it..

- The fact that the main character is Danny, not Bart (that's a nerd who get's a hot chick for prom) isn't a good thing (since I was thinking about Bart Simpson - I mean, everything with Bart in it is cool.. Even my dad)
- The fact that I really got annoyed when I heard "Bart got a room" followed by an exagerated gasp for air for the 5th time
- The fact that after 10 minutes or so Danny is masturbating on the toilet isn't working either
- The fact that I've seen this a million times.. It only had different names.. Like High School Musical or something silly..

Look, this Danny is a screwup and after 15 minutes you know what will happen and how it will end.. He keeps ditching his best friend (a girl) who wants to go to the prom with him.. But he's just a dick and wants to show off with an awesome, hot and sexy girl which doesn't work out untill he wants to ask this best friend 7 hours before prom begins and guess what? auhw.. She said yes to the best friend (a guy) of Danny.. This forces him to go with a hooker.. Awesome..

This film is boring because it's too real.. Yes, men do want to have sexy women and just switch to the "lower" class when that's not working out, probably a few will masturbate on the toilet (don't know how that's comfortable but I believe that's not my issue) and a few will pay girls to do other stuff then forcing them to have sex with them.. Once again, it's too real..

A movie needs to take your head of the "real life".. And this film doesn't succeed in doing that.. It just keeps me thinking about what I done wrong when I screwed up the best things I had and that's not what I wanted.. You want a good movie? Put 4 middle-aged men on 4 motorcycles and let them make a roadtrip (Wild Hogs), Force 2 men to spend time with 2 lonely kids (Role Models) or just show the life of a dog and his family (Marley & Me).. I mean.. These films just make you relax.. They make you follow the story and clear up your mind while you're enjoying a movie that simply is good, great or excellent..

This, though, was bad

Album Review: LeftRightLeftRightLeft - Coldplay

I think only the real Coldplay fans know about this album which has been released a few months ago. Anyway, I just found it right now.. LeftRightLeftRightLeft is a free live album you can download on coldplay's website. They did this to thank their fans.. I don't think I need to introduce the band (I mean 2 million fans on Facebook..) so I'll just go to the review.

1. Glass Of Water

The quality of the songs is super and actually it sounds just like on the Prospekt's March EP but I don't really care 'cause it's a good song (not like Fix You or something like that) and you just enjoy it.. I think that's all that matters.. The refrain in the end and the lasthalf minute are also pretty powerful.. A bit better then on the EP to me.

2. 42

I've never really listened to this song.. When I had the Viva La Vida cd it was one of the songs I used to skip since I don't like the start at all.. And unfortunately that's not different in this live version.. But I seem to have forgotten about the twist the song makes after One minute 40 seconds or so.. It sounds awesome just.. The guitars, drums, vocals and pretty strong lyrics.. ("You thought you might be a ghost.. You didn't get to heaven but you made it close", I mean - WOW). So after all you don't really care about the "strange" lyrics in the beginning and end.

3. Clocks

Clocks is an all-time favorite of everybody and you're a wreck if you go like "Clocks?" but I think after all these years it had lost a bit of it's wow-feeling.. Partly due to the fact that better songs have been made by them (Fix You, Viva La Vida, Speed Of Sounds) and that it's been played over and over and over again on the radio so that you will know every note that will follow.. Unfortunately that makes it a bit "boring".. But it's an amazing song and that's not different on this live version.

4. Strawberry Swing

When the song starts you just know something good will folow thanks to the crowd that just starts clapping and it is, like I thought, awesome.. It's just like on the album, I mean.. Some may find that boring but I do like it..

5. The Hardest Part/Postcards From Far Away

This title seemed a bit odd to me.. I love The Hardest Part, I hate Postcards From Far Away (since it's the most useless 48 seconds out of the whole of Coldplay to me so I was pretty curious about what was going to follow.
Anyway, The Hardest Part is awesome.. WAAAAY better then on the album and that with just a piano, frontvocals, backing vocals and a crowd going mad on the song. It's the first song that doesn't sound like the album version and I have to say that Postcards From Far Away is nice pasted after it but after ten seconds it's just rubbish again.. It feels useless.. Once again

6. Viva La Vida

Oh My God that feels awesome! It's AWESOME how fast it follows Postcards From Far Away and you can just feel the crowd explode after it had fallen asleep in the previous song.. When you have an ok subwoofer you'll be blown away by the drum.. I just can't believe how amazing the crowd is singing out there.. It just feels like you're front-row.. Awesome..

7. Death Will Never Conquer

It's a funny song, nice just to have you know.. It's different.. Worse then everything else (except for Postcards From Far Away) but once again, it's nice to have..

8. Fix You

This is, in my opinion and I think you'll agree, one of the best Coldplay songs ever.. And you just want to sing along, like really loud.. Just like the crowd when the refrain's there ("Lights will guide........"). You just feel the power getting piece by piece in the song when the guitars and drum are building up to the climax and you just get shivers all over your miserable body when you feel you can be so much more then you thought.. That's what I feel when I'm listening to this part of the song.. It's not normal.. Really..

9. Death And All His Friends

This is one of my favorite songs from the Viva La Vida album and also in this live version it stands out to me.. Just the fact that Chris begins singing without any instruments untill after 30 seconds the piano falls in and the song gets started you have a special atmosphere since the crowd's totally silence too.. And then there's the switch at 1:23 that really makes you feel like Fix You did..

Coldplay is one of the bands anyone can sing, doesn't matter what color or age yknow? When you're singing to Basshunter or 50 Cent you get some strange looks.. When you sing a Coldplay song everyone will just sing along because it's an awesome band and I think they proove that during the last 4 albums.. And the fact that this one's free makes it even better

If only I could add a sixth star..

Album Review: Nothing Personal - All Time Low

I've been a fan of All Time Low ever since Joni gave me the 2007 album "So Wrong, It's Right" so when I heard this one was coming out it got a reminder on my cellphone at that very own moment and now I can share my thoughts with you.. Here's the first single of the new album:

Ok, so that's the song, this is the cover:

I'm not going to waste many words before I tell you guys what I think.. I know All Time Low is incredibly good in writing lyrics.. It's one of the few bands that actually show boys have feelings too.. I like that.. Like.. A Lot..

1. Weightless

The song I've been playing over and over and over and maybe one more time.. Ah well, non-stop during my exams.. It's just so amazing how the lyrics work together with the guitar and how they suddenly grow and I have to say, I feel the shivers runnin down my back in that first refrain.. If you still don't get it I'll put it like this: This song is A-mazing..

2. Break Your Little Heart

Once again they came up with strong lyrics, but I suppose I'll say that 12 times in this review.. But even though the lyrics are ok, it doesn't feel as powerful as Weightless.. I don't think this song works even though it's nice but if you listen to it you just want to yell the song out loud so that everyone knows you want to be on stage with these guys.. Not amazing, not bad at all, but you don't remember this song for 5 minutes..

3. Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don't)

I love this song.. Yknow, I wass having a phone conversation and this song was playing in the back.. I didn't even knew this bitch was recording the conversation to get evidence (she didn't get it but fuck it). Anyway, when the refrain began at once I began singing along.. So that's to give you an idea how catchy this song is. You will enjoy it, nothing more to say.. The oh - oh - oh in the refrain is so great to sing along and that's what I do, hell yeah!!

4. Lost In Stereo

Don't really know what this song's about but it's so beautiful.. Not like Weightless or so but different in their own style.. The refrain is powerful enough to make you move your body without asking for that and I believe that's what makes a good song, right? It's nothing like their best songs but it's a song you won't skip when you're shuffeling like 3000 songs on your iPod

5. Stella

This is a song that doesn't convience at all untill the refrain begins.. It's.. It's on of my top-5 favorite songs of the new album (4th I believe) and I don't know.. These lyrics are so blowing-me-off-my-socks that I can't have a comment on anything..

You're only happy when I'm wasted
I point my finger
But I just can't place it
Feels like I'm falling in love
When I'm falling to the bathroom floor
I remember how you tasted
I've had you so many times
Let's face it
Feels like I'm falling in love alone
Stella, would you take me home?

6. Sick Little Games

This one's pretty "blergh" actually.. It doesn't feel like All Time Low and I don't think it sounds good.. It's too slow, no wow-lyrics, no passion, not a real All Time Low to me..

7. Hello, Brooklyn

Also this one doesn't really feel like an All Time Low.. You know? It's a song that a punk band could write.. I know All Time Low is pretty punk/rock but this just isn't who they are.. I like the part at the end where all the city names come though..

8. Walls

This is the first song I've listened from the new album and I think it's an amazing song.. Amazing lyrics (not like Stella or Too Much though) and it's just a 100% All Time Low.. You can really feel what the singer wants to say with this song (or is that me being pethatic?) and I think it's a great intro for the following song, my favorite of the Nothing Personal album..

9. Too Much

The most amazing strings to enter an alternative song ever
Amazing vocals before the lyrics begin
A simple kick drum
AND F-ING AMAZING LYRICS.. I mean.. Damn.. I'm not going to waste more time, just listen..

10. Keep The Change, You Filthy Animal

It's so stupid that after an amazing song like Too Much they don't keep that spirit and make another song like that.. Not completely the same, I mean.. It could be a perfect punk song but not so angry as this one.. Ah well, it's an ok-song so let's just be happy for that..

11. A Party Song ( The Walk Of Shame)

Good song.. No further comment.. It's not great but it's better then just ok so..

12. Therapy

Well, I think they did good with putting this song last 'cause it takes Too Much a step further with the acoustic guitar.. I mean, Too Much is better in my opinion but this gives it a nice gentle puch and makes you finish the album with a smile rather then hate (and they give you enough of that too yknow..)

Well, personaly offcourse, I absolutely love the album except 2 or maybe 3 songs but I think that they could've worked more on a few song or maybe they should've written other songs instead of songs like Sick Little Games.. Ah well, it's All Time Low dude! You don't need to think, you need to enjoy!

Album Review: Nothing Personal - All Time Low: 3/5

Album Review: What Is Echo? - What Is Echo?

A few days before I went on a vacation I was surfing Youtube and at once I found this:

Yes, it was a new EP by a band no one has ever heard of and they decided to give that EP away for free!! Just like Your Countdown, ShowUCare, Armic and all the rest, but look how amazing that guy is looking at the camera and something inside you just screems: "This is gonna be amazing!! Download it!". And since the band has the right attitude to me.. I did that..

Now, the EP-cover may not look as how-the-hell-did-you-made-that like the Silence The Lights-Cover by Your Countdown but it has a nice touch of simplicity and it just gives you this feeling that what you're going to hear will be a mix of different feelings and different styles of music.. So let's give it a go.. "What Is Echo?" has 8 songs on it.

1. Hype

Hype starts with an awesome guitar (a little bit like.. No I can't actually compare that.. It's pretty unique). Right now I'm on the point where the singer has entered the song and I don't really have the same "wow" feeling no more.. I mean, I can hear they all have a sort of talent but they don't completely know how to fit it into a nice song (even though the instrumental piece in the middle once again is pretty good..).

2. Fivepoundfifty

Once again the opening melody is amazing and this time the singer enters the song in a structured way and that's pretty good since they took the time for the song to build before the guitars come in which is nice done (no comment). The lyrics to the song are also pretty good but by now I'm a bit annoyed by the singer's voice.. You know.. It's not bad at all but he has a kinda deep voice which sometimes sounds a bit frustrated when he has to reach a high note..

3. Don't Look Back

This is the first song that doesn't make my feet tap on the rythm.. I don't know but this one just doesn't feel right.. The guitars feel a bit "cheap", the drums aren't always on time (I mean, you can miss something but then just record again or don't hit the drum waaaaay too late) and the refrain has like.. hmm.. Nothing.. Once you get used to the guitar it's pretty ok until a "whoopwhoopwhoopwhoop"-sound comes in the background which pretty much fucks my "need" to tap my feet.. This one is a fail for me..

4. Put On Hold

You know these songs you put on your iPod without thinking "do I actually like this?".. Well, it sounds like that.. I have such an urge to skip this one because the vocals are bad, Erm, the guitar is pretty "the same" (except for the refrain), it sounds empty.. And the fact that the singer sings 20 times "This is the last time" at the end.. Nah, that doesn't work either..

5. Euphoria

Euphoria sounds like a ghost that is really reeeeeaaaally bored.. It doesn't sound really cheery or so but ok, I mean, maybe they wanted that? It's just, I mean.. They use this keyboard and the notes they play are pretty good and original but why did they took the most boring "tuuuut" in the world.. If they would've made that a bright tone it would've been ok and you would not be frustrated when you have listened to the song.. Frustrated isn't the right word.. Bored is better..

6. No More Heroes

Singing sucks but all the rest is pretty ok, nice guitar and a good drum (I think this band would be better with a new, less boring singer and some fresh ideas)..

7. One More Minute

Stupid.. Next

8. Lost In The Desert

Finaly! Another song that makes me feel a bit awake! good, simple guitar, mysterious atmosphere, great drums and (thank God!!!) great vocals! This song has something in it which can take you over for some degree (I mean, not like Coldplay or so, but it's enjoyable).

Too bad only the two first songs and the last left kind of a good impression.. You can clearly hear that this is a garageband (even though they recorded this in a studio [my kudos for that]) in an early stage but with there own style that some may like, some won't.. They also made a very good choice by giving this EP away for free because I wouldn't have written this review if I'd had to pay for this.. But anyway, The EP is muh-muh.. Not good, not really bad but you really have to like it I guess..

Album Review: What Is Echo? - What Is Echo: 1/5

You can download the EP here (Should start in a few seconds).. Also have a listen to their Myspace with a bit more (as far as I've listened - 45 seconds or so) power in it.

Next review coming in about an hour.

Various Media - Intoduction

Hey,

I'm Michiel Vossen, but just call me Mike..

I'm not going to write an awesome text here so here are just a few facts about Various Media:

First of all you have to know I'm working on many many many music projects (Your Countdown, ShowUCare, Armic, even one without a name yet, ...) and I wanted to have a site where all my musical experience could get on. That's when I decided to make Various Music. But after a while I thought it would be nice if I could also have a voice on this site (like Joni's Vibes Levi) so I will review and announce new stuff in my life (tv, movie, music) starting from now! :D

Oh btw, here's the logo:

It represents like nothing, but that doesn't matter.. It's cool.. Right?

The first 2 reviews are coming up in a few hours
